Salting the cucumbers and rinsing them after 15 mins made a big difference and definitely worth the extra effort. Kept them crunchy for days till we ate it all.
Valerie Meister. Fabulous salad. A little different from my usual effort and I think I will stick with this one.
I made 2 differences - I had to add 1 clove of Russian garlic only because I love garlic and I used lemon juice instead of red wine vinegar mainly because I had no red wine vinegar.
Absolutely delicious. If you are looking for a Greek salad recipe go with this one. Angel Petty. Hot Dish. I am not big into salads and I am not sure why I even tried this.

Buch erstellen Als PDF herunterladen Druckversion. Deutscher Titel. My Big Fat Greek Summer. My Life in Ruins. Though I liked the character of Mandy, I was fairly bored by the love interests we get in this one which are Mandy's husband Danny and a man she meets in Greece, Costas.
We also have Mandy's best friend Hayley that I shrugged about too. The fact I had to go back and re-look up this person's name let's you know how much of an impression she made on me.
I love Greece. After spending two weeks there two years back on a catamaran, I dream of going back soon. The Greece I got to see is much different than the one depicted in Roberts book.
Roberts takes a look at a small town in Greece, called Thakos, that seems fairly broken even though there is a nearby resort that is for the wealthy.
I thought Mandy's idea was fairly absurd, I won't get into it, spoilers and all, but I maybe went why is anyone listening to Mandy and why is this even a thing?
Why can't I just read about hot Greek men? I thought the ending was rushed considering the first half of the book. I also unfortunately called a lot of things that occurred which made the book not that exciting to finish.
I think Roberts wanted to wrap things up with a Happily Ever After, it just didn't feel quite real with her deciding to rush things forward four years.
To be honest I felt disappointed with this. The blurb sounded good. I was expecting something exciting like a Tilly Tennant, Holly Martin or Mandy Baggot.
This was a review copy in which I give my honest opinion. My first book by this author. I liked the storyline and the main characters.
It was an easy read but I felt like it was missing a bit of oomph. Advanced Reader Copy ARC provided by the Author and Publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an fair and honest review.
I really like this coming to terms with life story. As a lot of couples have found, the HEA they expected on their wedding day sometimes just doesn't exist.
And, sometimes it takes a lot of work and compromise. We get to follow Mandy as she comes to terms with the end of her relationship, after being together almost 15 years, with Danny.

Heart wrenching, softly humorous and totally believable. At almost 30, Mandy thought she would be married to Danny forever.
Then he comes home after an all nighter and it is obvious that he has been with another woman. She kicks him out of the house and begins to try and face her life without him.
Her boss tells her to take a holiday and she heads for Thakos Greece, a holiday destination she remembers fondly from her childhood.
The village of Thakos is not exactly how she remembers it, but the people are warm and welcoming and just what Mandy needs to heal her heart and find the adventure spark that has been lacking in her life of late.
Throughout the summer Mandy finds a new purpose and lets the peace of the tranquil blue ocean and the peaceful village mend her in ways she didn't even know were broken.
As Mandy begins to open her heart again she finds that falling for a tall, dark and handsome stranger could bring a whole new set of problems to her life.
This book ended up being just as described - uplifting and with a feel-good factor approaching the temperature in the Greek sun.
Mandy is in a bit of a rut. Long time married to Danny, their lives follow predictable patterns of work and then curries in front of the telly.
Mandy is ok with this but seemingly Danny is not as he seems a little bit TOO interested in women who aren't his wife.
Mandy needs a change of scenery and heads off to Greece, the place where happy childhood memories spring from This book ended up being just as described - uplifting and with a feel-good factor approaching the temperature in the Greek sun.
Mandy needs a change of scenery and heads off to Greece, the place where happy childhood memories spring from, only to find that the locals have been hit hard by the recession and things are not as they were.
I adored this book, Mandy was a wonderful character and the secondary characters were as well. This was a lovely novel to read when you need a bit of a lift, so much positivity, not in an over-the-top way though.
I loved My Big Greek Summer. This one is set between Liverpool and a small village on the island of Rhodes.
The main character, Mandy, has split up from her husband and after being encouraged to get away for a few days flies off to Rhodes where she remembers holidaying as a child.
A great book, fun and uplifting that will put anyone in that ho I loved My Big Greek Summer. A great book, fun and uplifting that will put anyone in that holiday mood.

A great beach read! I look forward to reading more by this author. Thank you NetGalley and bookotoure for the eARC.
This is my honest review. Buy this Book on. Apr 20, Andi rated it liked it. A very easy read, perfect for reading in the garden whilst waiting for the warmer weather.
Likeable characters, a bit cheesy, but that's ok. I would recommend it if you're looking for a light read. My Big Greek Summer by Sue Roberts is a very easy, light, read perfect for whiling a few hours away on a sun lounger whilst abroad in sunnier climes.
The story follows Mandy, aged 29 who is attempting to get her life back on track after what she thought would be her happily ever after turned into more than a disaster.
Husband Dave, who she has been with since she was 15, has been having an affair and as soon as this discovery was made he was shown the door.
Now Mandy's job working in the Pig and My Big Greek Summer by Sue Roberts is a very easy, light, read perfect for whiling a few hours away on a sun lounger whilst abroad in sunnier climes.
Now Mandy's job working in the Pig and Whistle pub is her only outlet, it is what makes her get up in the morning. It has been her saving grace and alongside the heartbreak diet her life has descended into one of normality and endless routine.
She begins to question whether this will be it forever or will love ever make a permanent reappearance in her life at any stage in the future?
Mandy's job is her salvation and she enjoys meeting the regulars and hearing their stories but she feels there has to be more out there for her?
Was there something bigger waiting for her when she made Dave leave? Given the book had both such a summery cover and title I presumed a Greek island would form the basis for the majority of the plot and setting.
Instead I found the first quarter was dedicated to explaining Mandy's back story and what point her heart, mind and emotions were at with regard to the life situation she found herself in.
This was all well and good, and yes it did need to be explained, but I thought it would have worked better if we had gotten straight into her going away and then letting her story be revealed piece by piece as she was away.
I felt once Mandy was given the opportunity to take some time away from work given she was beginning to make careless errors and her mind and attention span was wandering , that for me was when the story really got going.
Of course I did feel empathy for Mandy, no one wants to have their perfect, ideal life snatched out from underneath them especially when you fully believed everything was rosy in the garden and not much could happen to change that.
After explaining some differences like our personal relationships with Jesus they listened and discussed with us for a bit but then the conversation moved elsewhere.
It was really cool how 5 different college girls from different places hit it off and had a really fun and interesting conversation.
As our time was coming to a close, the girls invited us to a concert being held not too far from our hostel that night. Once getting back with our other project members we shared about getting invited to a Greek concert and they were all super excited for us and wanted to come along.
The concert was only 5 euros, so it was a pretty good deal. When the time came to leave for the concert and exhaustion had crept in for most 7 of us had decided to go.
And for those who were wondering about our safety going out at night we brought guys from our project with us and got back to our hostel before the metro stopped running.
We were definitely taken care of. The guys were so nice to come along with us and I know they enjoyed the concert too!
We met up with our Greek friends Anastasia and Gary who brought their friends, and all had a great time. The music ranged from Greek rock to Acoustic Italian to Traditional Greek.
It was so cool to listen to their music and learn dances from the culture. It was definitely a highlight from the first week!
Tuesday we began language classes. A lady who taught Greek lessons to the STINT team also will be teaching Greek to us.
Everyone else headed to their campuses after our lesson, but I headed back to the hostel with my project directors Bryan and Jen.
I am doing a little babysitting of their kids over project. They have two adorable children Olivia 4 and William 2.
And it reminds me of home in America being with kids since I work with them all the time. Wednesday we had spiritual development time with the entire project held at a local evangelical church.
Right after, we headed to campus again. This day was a little discouraging. Continually we kept getting rejected for conversations. Not only my campus group, but the other group from my project as well.
It was so strange since the two days prior were just the opposite. Dylan, our staff campus group leader, suggested that if we wanted to, we could step off campus for that day and go to our coffee time location and just pray and spend some time in the Word over the campus.
Coffee time is a once a week whole group conversation experience. Basically each campus group chooses a coffee house or cafe near the campus they are ministering to, and sets up a time each week to invite a bunch of our Greek friends to for a chance to meet others and have a spiritual conversation altogether over coffee of course.
The coffee house Dylan found earlier in the week for us is super cool. Like the tv show Friends! Its a purple building and inside is super awesome and modern.
There are pictures from the show and of the cast all over the inside. They play really cool music and have some yummy looking drinks and foods.
On the top level where we had reserved has couches and bean bag chairs small over. Unfortunately for our first coffee time, no Greek students showed up.
It gave us a chance to check out the cafe and order some drinks. We see them playing it on campus all the time. My campus group decided it would be good to learn it so that we can play with others and strike up conversations that way.
There was a little kiosk on the street near the cafe and one of my teammates Trevor went down and bought a deck of Tichu cards. Wednesday night was bible study and this is where we are with staff members and about people of your same gender.
The girls in my bible study are super sweet and I really enjoy our times together I mean, I love everything but sometimes small groups are nice.
In bible study we are digging into 1st Thessalonians, which is cool because we have enough bible studies to do one chapter a week!
After bible study we packed for our few days at a camp called Porto Astro. Due to the length of this post and my level of sleepiness, I will close up these thoughts and share about our Porto Astro experience soon!
You can specifically pray for my friends Elizabeth, Anastasia and Gary to come into a living relationship with the Father and for more connections and friendships to be made on campus.
The Lord is so good and has continued to take care of us and bless us. Sending hugs to you all from overseas! We made it! A little more than 24 hours ago my team and I arrived at the airport in Athens and so did ALL of our luggage.
Praise God! After arriving at our hostel we immediately dropped off our belongings and headed straight toward our first real Greek meal.
It was awesome and not just because we had been eating little snacks and airplane food for the 24 hours prior. Greek food is so good!
Walking to and from the restaurant at night was neat because there was so much going on. As soon as we got back we showered and went to bed.
We began our day with a classic Greek breakfast the hostel provides, 2 hard boiled eggs, a roll with butter and jam, and coffee, and headed out to our first activity.
We went to Mars Hill! It was the coolest thing to read those verses in the same location it happened! Recent Posts Happy India Republic Day, 26 January Spice Souq Qatar with the lovely ladies from AWAQ — JANUARY… Talent Extraordinaire.
